E-type Club Birthday

Issue 1 of The E-type

At the heart of the Club’s success is its professional, 44-page magazine The E-type which expounds on all topics relevant to E-type ownership – technical to totally non-technical, factual to frivolous.

We think the cover of Issue 1 was simply stunning!

What a Welcome!

Over 30 E-types and 70 members gathered at the Lambert Arms in Oxfordshire for our very first event – an informal Welcome Lunch.  Despite the winter gloom, the cars created a stunning display in the car park.  Attendees included two intrepid travellers from Aberdeen, plus overseas members from Italy and the Netherlands.

E-type Club Day - The Sunday Run

After the success of our first E-type Club Day at our Worcestershire HQ, came the Sunday Run – which explored the beautiful Welsh borders. On this event, the roar of 70/80 E-types driving through the medieval town of Ludlow on their way to Ludford House for Champagne and canapés will long stay in the memory of most people in the area.

In fact, rumour has it, that the sound of one particularly sonorous rev can still be heard reverberating around the valleys and hills on calm days!

The First E-type Tour

For our first big adventure we asked our members to show their sporting credentials as we led them on a tour of famous circuits and tracks in France, Luxembourg and Germany.

Having been put through our paces at the Goodyear Test Track, we travelled on through the stunning Moselle Valley to the Rhine.  The undisputed highlight of the tour, however, was the chance to put the skills learnt at the Goodyear Track into practice at Germany’s most notorious circuit – the infamous Nurburgring.

E-type Club Day at Shelsley Walsh

Historic Shelsley Walsh was the evocative setting for the second E-type Club Day. 50 E-types gathered here for a morning of E-type chat, attended by specialists and stallholders, whilst listening to the Jazz sounds of the James Hunt Band. After a delicious pig roast lunch 35 of the E-types, embarked on a tour of the local area, arriving for afternoon tea at Hilltop Farm.

Jaguar Events

In 2006, the Club has offered members a number of opportunities to go behind the scenes with Jaguar Cars, beginning in February, when six lucky XK/E-type Club members were whisked to South Africa.  Here they joined assembled representatives of the World’s press to drive the new XK.  In September, our members were on the move with Jaguar again, this time enjoying a life of luxury in Spain whilst also getting to grips with the new XKR.

If all of this wasn’t gorgeous enough, Club members have also been treated to a very special evening with Jaguar Design Director Ian Callum, where they were given a privileged peek into the company’s design secrets, past and present.

E-type Tour Spain:

This year’s continental tour explored hidden Spain – from Cantabria to Catalunya - under the experienced eyes of our Tour Co-ordinator, Riccardo Galvani.  We visited the Dali museum, tasted the local wine, travelled through the national park of Fuente De in the Picos, and even competed in a regularity run.

However, no matter how stunning the scenery was or how good the food, all of this paled into insignificance next to the presence of Guapa – a rather striking African Grey parrot who spent a great deal of time being smuggled in and out of hotels or lounging in the back of an E-type.

What Guapa thought of touring with the Club he hasn’t yet divulged!

So that’s our highlights. What are yours? Send us your best bits to abigail@e-typeclub.com.

Technical Seminar

The Club is continually evolving to meet the needs of its members, so when you asked for more technical information, we responded by organising our first Technical Seminar, at Jaguar specialists, CMC (Classic Motor Cars).  The feedback has been wonderful, with all remarking how informative it was – so watch out for more seminars next year

Seconds Please!

We are all saying a big Happy 2nd Birthday to the E-type Club.  So what have been our highlights?
